Autodesk Navisworks Viewer

Autodesk Viewer is a free online viewer for 2D and 3D designs including AutoCAD DWG, DXF, Revit RVT and Inventor IPT, as well as STEP, SolidWorks, CATIA and others. Easily publish coordinated models using Autodesk Navisworks Manage or Autodesk Navisworks Simulate then offer access to the model hierarchy, object properties, and embedded review data, including viewpoints, animations, redlines, and comments in Autodesk Navisworks Freedom.

The saved viewpoints of Navisworks enables you to manage different views of your model so that you can jump to preset viewpoints without having to navigate each time to reach an item. In the past, Forge Model Derivative API did not translate these information, so we had to dump the information by Navisworks API in plugin to a dataset (xml whatever), then load them and convert to the camera objects of Forge Viewer.

Now, Model Derivative API has translated the data of saved viewpoints, and Forge Viewer provides the APIs to get those presets cameras. They are stored at:

Then, you can switch current view to that of the predefined saved viewpoint:

https://viewer.autodesk.com/ provides the panel of saved viewpoints category, yet under Sheet category.

Autodesk Navisworks Freedom Viewer

Autodesk Navisworks Freedom is the free viewer for NWD (Navisworks drawing file) and DWF (Autodesk Design Review) file formats. Navisworks doesn’t create models but it combines them and allows them to be viewed and navigated, measured and analyzed, all together in one environment.

Before we can do anything in Navisworks we need a model. Each trade or each design team member makes his own model and they do that with their own software. Each one of this software has their own proprietary format. Navisworks takes all those different formats (CAD/BIM data) and puts them together into one model.

Navisworks Freedom is one of three versions of Navisworks (the others are Simulate and Manage). It allows you to view, navigate, measure and section a model that has been compiled. Navisworks Simulate does everything that Freedom does but it also allows you to do quantity takeoff, put annotations, save viewpoints and export combined models. Naviswork Manage is the highest version and it does everything Freedom and Simulate does plus it adds the ability to do clash detection and clash management.

About Autodesk

Autodesk is a pioneer in 3D design, engineering and digital entertainment software. Though best known for its flagship product, AutoCAD, it has developed a vast range of software for the design, engineering and entertainment industries.

Autodesk was founded in 1982 by John Walker and 12 other like-minded individuals. The company launched their first original product AutoCAD that same year. Autodesk has since expanded upon a number of non AutoCAD-based products as well, including parametric BIM application Revit and 3D CAD modelling software Inventor. In recent years, Autodesk has made the move towards mobile and cloud-based applications including Fusion 360 and AutoCAD 360. Autodesk has expanded its presence in the maker community with acquisitions like Instructables and Pixlr.

Autodesk is more than just its products or its acquisitions. It had an impact on everything from education to the job sector and even on business sustainability and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future.
